On the 11th and 12th of May, Lisbon will be the stage for the Journeys for Energy Democracy. For 2 days we will turn Camões Highschool into a free and open space, where different people, collectives, associations, cooperatives and social and environmental movements can meet, get to know each other and debate about the future and the energy transition we want. We will outline possible strategies to evolve the current energy model into a new 100% renewable model, based on the idea of energy as a common good and universal right; a community, public, socially fair and democratic energy model. Let's, above all, join forces to start building this model from citizens, communities and municipalities. We will discuss the meanings of Energy Democracy and how it is essential to respond to the climate, social and ecological crisis. But also how to operationalize public and community management of the energy system and the role of municipalities in the transition. We will encourage the creation of networks for energy democracy, get to know Renewable Energy Communities, discuss actions to eradicate energy poverty and design models of democratic mobility. Let's reflect on degrowth, energy sufficiency or large extractive projects. We will also give energy to social movements, demonstrating that a socially fair and democratic energy model necessarily involves combating socioeconomic, racial, gender and access to housing inequalities. In the midst of all this there will still be time for exhibitions, films, music and even a dive into the SolarPunk movement.
