FMA Annual Seminar

On 7 December 2023 from 10.00 to 13.00, the FMA will organize its Annual Event “Participation and AI in Europe – Towards the 2024 European Elections” in the European Parliament, Brussels. The Event will focus on two aspects in light of the upcoming 2024 European elections, with an insightful exploration into the vital intersection of citizens’ participation and the transformative role of technology, particularly artificial intelligence. In the Librorum event from 10.00 to 11.00, we will explore ways to enhance civic education and envision a European landscape where citizens are not just spectators but active architects of their democratic future. FMA Vice-President Monica Baldi and FMA Board Member and EP to Campus coordinator Michael Hindley will present the FMA_HAEU publication entitled “Participation in Europe”, which is based on contributions of speakers and guests during the hybrid conference of June 16 2023. This conference, organised by the European Parliament Former Members Association, Erasmus+/Indire and the Historical Archives of the European Union, examined three concrete programmes developed to increase the understanding and participation of young people in Europe. The second leg of the event will take place from 11.00-13.00 with our Annual Seminar entitled “New technological transition: opportunities and challenges”. Guest speakers Christian EHLER, Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) (tbc), Associate Professor of IT Law at University of Tartu Marta CANTERO, and CEO of the Customized Artificial Intelligence Solutions company Querlo, Francesco RULLI will give eye-opening and enlightening speeches on the opportunities and challenges of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. They will unpack the potential of artificial intelligence and will weigh the ethical considerations and potential pitfalls associated with the integration of AI in democratic systems.
