The current COVID crisis has seen an increased, unequal burden placed upon women. In both our health services and voluntary organisations, but also in the home where many have to juggle work, home schooling and being carers. We have also seen truly inspirational and re-assuring leadership by women in dealing with the pandemic and its consequences.

To mark International Women's Day on 8th March 2021, the EP Liaison Office in London is hosting an on-line discussion entitled 'Female Leaders in Times of Crisis'.

Part of the series ‘Parliaments in Dialogue#ParliamentsInDialogue, our distinguished panel will look at why leaders such as Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and New Zealand's Jacinda Arden are perceived as having done better than their male counterparts in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The discussion will address how female leaders are responding to crisis in the community, especially to the particular needs of women and girls, and whether the qualities with which they are associated: decisiveness, empathy, compassion, efficiency and, perhaps above all, an ability to communicate in an open and clear manner can be further utilised in "building back better" to improve the lives of all and to deal with issues such as climate change.
